ABERDEEN, S.D. – A new art exhibition that focuses on the complex concept of femininity will be on display starting Monday in the Northern State University Johnson Fine Arts Center Gallery.

“Feminine Attempts” by Klaire Lockheart will be up through March 28. An opening reception will take place Monday, Feb. 7, 7-8:30 p.m., with Lockheart present to discuss her work. This event is free and open to the public.

Lockheart’s life-size oil paintings employ symbolism through clothing and environment to represent the various roles and expectations placed on women.

“My paintings allow me to explore the unnatural expectations of femininity,” Lockheart shares.

Lockheart earned her MFA from the University of South Dakota, and she is Miss Art World South Dakota. Her recent solo exhibitions include “Feminine Attempts” at the Sioux City Art Center in Sioux City, Iowa; “A is for Apron” at the Ritz Gallery in Brookings, S.D.; and “Ladylike Representations” at Gallery 120 in Inver Grove Heights, Minn.
