ABERDEEN, S.D. – Katrina Smith and Noelle Stubbe will hold a senior recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, in the Northern State University Krikac Auditorium.

Smith, the daughter of Vern and Nancy Smith, grew up in Gettysburg, graduating from Gettysburg High School in 2014.

Stubbe, the daughter of Larry and Geraldine Stubbe, grew up in Aberdeen, graduating from Aberdeen Central High School in 2014.

Smith, a vocal and instrumental music education major, plays the clarinet and is a soprano. She will perform “Fiskervise,” “Kveldsang for Blakken” and “Lok” by Edvard Grieg; “Beau Soir” and “Nuit D'etoiles” by Claude Debussy; “Non ti Fidar” by George Frideric Handel, “Think on These Things” by June Caldwell Kirlin; “How Lovely Are Thy Dwellings” by Samuel Liddle; and “Introduction, Theme, and Variations” by Gioachino Rossini. She will be accompanied by Kay Fischer.

Stubbe, an instrumental music education major, plays the violin. She will perform “Violin Sonata No. 4 in D Major, HWV 371, Movement 1 and 2” by G.F. Handel, “Violin Sonata No. 5 in F Major, Op. 24 (Spring), Movement 1” by L. van Beethoven and “Violin Sonatina in G Major, Op. 100, Movements 2 and 4” by Antonin Dvořák. She will be accompanied by Dr. Marcela Faflak.

Smith has studied under Dr. Darci Bultema and Dr. Audrey Miller during her time at NSU. She will graduate from Northern in the spring. After graduation, she plans to go on to teach music and/or get a degree in music therapy.

“I attended events held at Northern in high school and I liked it back then. It seemed like the perfect fit for me,” said Smith about her choice to attend Northern.

Stubbe has studied under Dr. Robert Vodnoy during her time at NSU. She will graduate from Northern in the spring. After graduation, Stubbe says that she “would love to be teaching a middle school orchestra someday. I want to expand the love that the kids have for music into something bigger, and show them how music connects us all.”
