Vanden Hoek grew up in Huron, S.D., with her parents, Steve and Susan Vanden Hoek. After graduating from Huron High School in 2018, she started attending NSU, where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Media with an emphasis in Graphics Design, and an arts administration certificate.

“I chose Northern because I wanted a smaller campus size. I felt like Northern provided me with a personalized experience tailored to my degree,” Vanden Hoek said. “The smaller class sizes allowed me to work closely with my professors and develop my skills for work after graduation.”

During her time at Northern, she worked with NSU School of Fine Arts faculty members, including Drs. Alexis Doerr, Nadya Preszler and Peter Kilian.

Vanden Hoek would like to continue to make artwork that she enjoys and find a job in graphic design after her graduation in May 2022.
