Ice Cream Social

The CSE Committee is having an ice cream social on the campus green on Wednesday, July 25, from 2 to 3 p.m. Raffle tickets for fall prizes will be available. Freewill donations will be accepted.

Northern Fort Playhouse Performances

The Northern Fort Playhouse’s 13th season will bring “Fly By Night” and “It’s Only a Play” to the historic Fort Sisseton through the end of the month. Showing at 7:30 p.m. on July 28 is “Fly By Night.” "It’s Only a Play” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on July 27. Ticket reservations can be made by calling 605-467-3247. Grieg And Mozart: Emotion Through Song

NSU’s Marla Fogderud, soprano, and Jean Hellner, piano, will present a lecture recital called “Grieg and Mozart: Emotion Through Song” on Saturday, July 28, at 2 p.m. at the Redlin Art Center in Watertown. The event is free and open to the public. A freewill offering to benefit the Edvard Grieg Society of The Dakotas will be taken.

JFAC Gallery Exhibition

The Sharon Kagan exhibition in the JFAC Gallery will run until Aug. 15. Kagan is a multimedia artist who utilizes knitting, photography and drawing as the foundation of her personal lexicon. Kagan has a Bachelor of Arts from UCLA and a Master of Arts in Sculpture from Otis Art Institute, where she trained with Betye Saar and Germano Celant. This exhibition was been coordinated through a partnership with Katharine T. Carter & Associates. Click here to learn more about the exhibit and the artist.

COLLEGEpalooza is Aug. 28

This back-to-school celebration for NSU and Presentation College students is scheduled for Aug. 28 in downtown Aberdeen.

Gypsy Day Parade Registration Open

Online registration for the 103rd annual NSU Gypsy Day Parade is now open. Individuals and groups interested in entering the parade will be able to access the online form. Registration will include a $25 participation fee. 2018 Common Read Lecture is Nov. 14

Angie Thomas, author of the No. 1 New York Times bestselling book “The Hate U Give,” will deliver NSU’s 2018 Common Read Lecture at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center. The event—Northern’s eighth annual Common Read Lecture—is free and open to the public. The award-winning “The Hate U Give” has received starred reviews from eight literary journals and has been optioned by Fox 2000 and Temple Hill Production. NSU Culturefest is Nov. 1

Organizers of Culturefest are seeking entertainment and community groups to participate in the event this fall on the Northern campus. Culturefest, a celebration of cultures from around the nation and the world, will be held 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, in the Barnett Center. Culturefest is free and open to the public. Individuals or groups interested in participating are encouraged to contact the NSU Office of International Programs at 605-626-7802 or international@northern.edu.

Great Russian Nutcracker will return to NSU on Nov. 26

The one and only Moscow Ballet Great Russian Nutcracker will return to the Northern State University Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater on Monday, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now. Friends of the Arts/NSU Young Artist Competition

The Northern State University School of Fine Arts has announced that it will launch the first annual Friends of the Arts/NSU Young Artist Competition on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019. The music performance competition will be open to juniors and seniors from high schools throughout South Dakota and surrounding states. Generous prizes will be offered for first, second and third place winners in four categories including piano, strings, voice and wind/percussion. Click here to read more information about the competition.
