“I was originally planning on going to pastry school, but that’s expensive. I always get asked when I started Mo’s Cakes, but I honestly don’t know. I remember doing a baby shower cake for one of my nieces and then it continued to grow from there. When you’re younger, it’s always fun to play around in the kitchen—I remember baking for friends during holidays or special occasions, and from there it slowly grew into the business that it is today. I feel like I am doing something truly special from making wedding cakes to getting to see everyone’s facial expressions when they cut into a gender reveal cake. Getting a degree in business from Northern has helped me learn the information that I need to know about opening my own business after I graduate. Understanding the processes of handling money, advertising and marketing will all be key aspects in order for me to be successful.
