I hope you are all doing well and you had an enjoyable Memorial Day holiday. As we move toward returning to campus, I’d like to encourage you all to follow these current CDC recommendations in order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:

We have been notified that a staff person who, last week, spent time in Great Plains East and limited time in Great Plains West, has tested positive for COVID-19.
Due to privacy laws, we are unable to share the identity of the individual.

Several months have passed since unprecedented events caused instruction to move online and virtually emptied our campus. In those weeks, routines and in some cases lives have abruptly changed. Underlying these changes is an emerging awareness that this pandemic is likely to be with us many months. Everyone is eager to resume Northern's vibrant campus life, but COVID-19 remains active in our area.
NSU Virtual Campus Town Hall Recap
More than 150 faculty and staff tuned in for Northern State University’s Virtual Campus Town Hall on Tuesday, May 5.
NSU President Dr. Tim Downs opened the question-and-answer session saying he’s proud of how everyone has responded to changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“You’ve adapted, you’ve improvised, you’ve made it work,” Downs said.

Dr. Fouberg and I have been charged with overseeing Northern State University’s Return-to-Campus Taskforce.
The taskforce’s charge is:
Each area shall identify safety procedures, guidelines and operating processes for resuming all university activities on campus. Each area shall also identify contingency plans should an outbreak occur on campus or in the community. All processes should follow city, county, SDBOR, State and Federal guidelines as outlined in the Appendices (listed below).

COVID-19 Academic Planning Fall 2020 Task Force
ABERDEEN, S.D. – As schools all over the nation continue to teach the remainder of the semester online, many teachers can become overwhelmed. When teachers are only able to communicate with their students via Zoom calls and occasional emails, it becomes easier for students to fall behind in their class work.
ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University will resume on-campus operations, including face-to-face learning, for the fall 2020 semester, following the guidance of the South Dakota Board of Regents.
Northern’s decision, announced in conjunction with the Board of Regents statement, followed careful consideration by campus leadership, said NSU President Dr. Tim Downs.
ABERDEEN, S.D. – Due to the continued impact of the COVID-19 virus, the 2020 summer theater season for Northern Fort Playhouse has been canceled.
Though the cancellation wasn’t an easy decision, it was the right one, said Northern Fort Playhouse Board of Directors President Sandi Jaspers.
