ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University student Madeline Brandner will have her Senior Art Exhibition on display Dec. 1-14 in the NSU Lincoln Gallery.

Brandner will hold a public reception at 7 p.m. Dec. 4 in the Lincoln Gallery. Digital photography and paintings will be displayed in this exhibition, titled "Ephemera."

“My paintings and photographs look and feel fragmentary and ephemeral, like stills of a never-created film or of a dream,” Brandner said. “The function of my work is to revive romanticism of life, for the viewer to ponder perceived reality compared to true reality, and simply to be looked at and enjoyed as visually pleasing, well-balanced compositions.”

Brandner, the daughter of Rick and Paula Brandner, grew up in Mitchell, graduating from Mitchell High School in 2017.

At Northern, she is majoring in art with a graphic design specialization and has studied with faculty members Peter Kilian, Greg Blair, Jung Keum-Taek, Alexis Doerr and Nadya Preszler.

“I was very impressed by Northern's art program when I toured here,” Brandner said. “I also wanted to attend a smaller university where I could have closer relationships with professors rather than at a large university where I could get lost in the crowd.”

Brandner will graduate in December 2021. She plans to get a job as a graphic designer and move to the East Coast after she graduates.
