“Most of my work focuses on narrative contrast,” he said. “My work tells a story, or sets a scene, and focuses on color that pops in each work.”

Duvall, the son of Trish Duvall of Jamestown, N.D., and Darin and Rachel Duvall of Aberdeen, grew up in Aberdeen, graduating from Great Plains Lutheran High School in Watertown in 2017.

At Northern, Duvall is pursuing a BFA in Digital Media and has studied with art faculty members Alexis Doerr, Nadya Preszler, Peter Kilian and Derek Decker.

“I chose Northern because it was home for me,” he said. “The faculty knew my name before I had even met them. I didn't feel like I was just another number. The small class sizes allowed me to create close relationships and develop my talents to prepare me for work after graduation.”

Duvall will graduate in December 2021. He hopes to stay in the area after graduation and continue to make artwork, and find a job in graphic design.
