  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University students injected about $13.3 million into the South Dakota economy through their day-to-day living expenses in the 2016 fiscal year.

    That figure is found in NSU’s Economic Impact Report, part of a research study measuring the impact of South Dakota’s six public universities on the state economy. The study was released Tuesday at a briefing for state lawmakers in Pierre.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Symphonic Band, under the direction of Dr. Rolf Olson, will present their Winter Tour Concert, entitled “Dancing,” on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Main Theater.

  • Norfolk, VA - College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced Wednesday the 2017 Scholar All-America Teams. The awards are in recognition of teams’ that achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2016 Fall Semester. The Northern State University swim team led the nation in NCAA Division II with a 3.76 GPA.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Dr. Brenda J. Mammenga is the new director of Institutional Research and Assessment at Northern State University.

    Mammenga began Jan. 17 at NSU. Her office is responsible for providing consistently accurate information to the university’s policy- and decision-makers. This also requires educating data recipients on possible uses of and trends in the information.

    Mammenga earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics from South Dakota State University, and her Ph.D. in mathematics from North Dakota State University.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University President Dr. Timothy Downs has been appointed to serve on the board of directors for two regional nonprofit organizations: the Aberdeen Area Chamber of Commerce and United Way of Northeastern South Dakota.

    Downs began Jan. 1 on the Aberdeen Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and is eligible to serve two, three-year terms.   • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University's 2017 spring commencement will take place Saturday, May 6.

    The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Barnett Center on the NSU campus.

    Tickets are not required; the public is welcome. Doors open at least an hour before the ceremony.

    The spring ceremony lasts approximately two hours. All guests are encouraged to stay until the end of the ceremony to honor all graduates.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University and Avera Health will continue a longtime partnership that provides on-campus health care for NSU students at no cost.

    NSU and Avera have signed a 10-year agreement for Avera to operate NSU Health Services through July 31, 2027.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Dr. Kelly Duncan, dean of the Northern State University Millicent Atkins School of Education, has co-authored another article for the Journal of Counseling and Development.

    The article, titled “Meta-Analysis of Counseling Outcomes for Youth with Conduct Disorders,” was published this month.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The 47th annual South Dakota Jazz Festival Concert will be held on Thursday, Jan. 19, featuring internationally celebrated NSU alum, Doug Woolverton.
