  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Local high school students from Aberdeen and the surrounding region competed in the Northern South Dakota Science and Mathematics Fair on March 23 at Northern State University.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University has taken the first step toward designing a new practice field for the Wolves football team – a move that also advances plans for NSU’s Regional Science Education Center and overall campus master plan.

    On Wednesday, the South Dakota Board of Regents approved Northern’s request to construct the practice field east of Jerde Hall, on the area currently used for NSU Wolves Women’s Soccer program practices.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The 2017 South Dakota National Geographic Bee will take place in the Northern State University Krikac Auditorium on March 31.

    The State Bees are the second level of the annual National Geographic Bee. The state champion will receive $100, the National Geographic Concise Atlas of the World, 4th Edition and a trip to Washington, D.C., to represent South Dakota in the National Geographic Bee Championship to be held at National Geographic Society headquarters, May 14-17, 2017.   • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Bridget Solsaa’s senior art exhibition will be on display April 10-21 in the Northern State University President's Gallery.

    Her opening reception will take place 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, in the President's Gallery, located on the second floor of Spafford Hall.

    Solsaa, the daughter of Joeleen and Michael Solsaa, grew up in Aberdeen, graduating from Central High School in 2009. She will be showing a variety of artwork – paintings, prints, photographs, and mixed media pieces.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Megan Vockrodt has wanted to be a teacher since childhood.

    “I’ve always loved learning new things,” said Vockrodt, a Northern State University honors student from Pierre. “I also enjoy helping others, so being a teacher combines the two. Teaching is just something I fell in love with when I was in elementary school.”

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Several Northern State University students will be participating in the upcoming SHRM competition in Washington state and the Community Banking Research Competition.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – “Winds in the east, there’s a mist comin’ in, like something is brewin’, and ‘bout to begin!” The Northern State University Theater Department’s production of “Mary Poppins” will “Step! Step! Step in time!” onto the Johnson Fine Arts Center main theater stage from Wednesday, April 19, through Sunday, April 23.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University professors, Dr. Kristi Brownfield and Dr. Courtney Waid-Lindberg have published an article in “The Annual Review of Interdisciplinary Justice Research.”

    In the article, entitled “Frontier Justice: Examining Representations of Modern Rural Policing on Television,” Brownfield and Waid-Lindberg examined the actuality of the portrayal of rural policing in modern television, via popular shows such as “True Detective” and “Longmire.” A conclusion of their research, taken from the abstract of their article is included below.… more

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – A Northern State University graduate is holding a Night of Champions to raise funds to fight malaria in his home country.

    Night of Champions will take place starting at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 1, in the NSU Student Center. The fundraiser event will be hosted by the Deng Foundation and the NSU Office of International Programs.

    All proceeds raised will be used by the Deng Foundation to build the first ever medical clinic in Aweil East, South Sudan, where a malaria outbreak is killing people daily.
