  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Several Northern State University graphic design majors will showcase their work in a collaborative art exhibition entitled “Gestalt,” opening on March 27 in the NSU President’s Gallery.

    Graphic design students involved include Rebecca Hunt of Pierre; Carrie Wegleitner of Lake City; Jen Rappe of Ipswich; Levi Seefeldt of Clark; Emily Tillma of Milbank and Alexis Doerr of Aberdeen.

  • Leaders from the Sanford Underground Research Facility will lead a discussion titled "Big Science at Sanford Lab," an exploration of the Lab's impact on education and the economy in South Dakota, at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, at Northern State University. The event will be held in the NSU Student Center Centennial Rooms, 1200 S. Jay St., Aberdeen, S.D. A reception will follow the event, which is free and open to the public.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – An upcoming arts event in downtown Aberdeen that benefits Safe Harbor will feature artwork by Northern State University students.

    “A Night of Art and Poetry” will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at Red Rooster Coffee House, 202 S. Main St. The event is a collaborative effort involving NSU students and faculty, Safe Harbor and local high school students.

  • ABERDEEN, SD -  Northern State University will host the 64th annual Mathematics Contest at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 19 in the Barnett Center.

    The contest will feature four divisions: Elementary Algebra, Geometry, Advanced Algebra and Senior Math. NSU mathematic faculty members Dr. A. S. Elkhader, Dr. Ricardo Rojas, Dr. Margaret Adams and Dr. Stacy Trentham will be responsible for constructing tests for each of the four contest divisions.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Lexi Becht and Kylie Rusch will hold a senior recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 2, in Northern State University’s Krikac Auditorium.

    Becht, the daughter of Doug and Myrna Becht, grew up in Clear Lake, graduating from Deuel High School in 2014.

    Rusch, the daughter of Shellie and Darin Rusch, grew up in Bismarck, N.D., graduating from Saint Mary’s Central High School in 2014.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – A reception for Alexis Doerr’s senior art exhibition will be held Tuesday, March 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Northern State University Student Center.

    The exhibition, titled “An Artistic Utterance,” will be on display Monday, March 27, through Friday, April 7.

    Doerr will primarily display paintings with mixed media elements such as embroidery, along with some of her graphic design works.

    “Painting is my favorite artistic method, but lately I have been using graphic design to convey my artistic message as well,” she said.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – As the winner of Northern State University’s 2015 Undergraduate Competitive Research Grant, Sienna Marcott aims to create an affordable, sustainable, agricultural-grade fungicide for the organic grower.

    Marcott, a sophomore this fall, received a $2,820 grant for her project, “Fungicidal Properties of Essential Oils and Secondary Metabolites against Fungal Strains Common to Damping-Off Disease.”

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Two Northern State University bands will present their spring concert, entitled “Local Colors” on Sunday, March 26, at 3 p.m., in the NSU Johnson Fine Arts Center Main Theater.

    The concert features a variety of spring colors and textures, combined with local talent, featuring NSU faculty and students.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. - Northern State University’s Vocal Jazz Ensemble (VJE) will offer an evening of sweet jazz, featuring coffee and desserts on Thursday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the NSU Student Center Centennial Room.
