    ABERDEEN, S.D. – Winners have been announced from the 2021 Northern State University Concerto-Aria Competition.

    The winners are:

    • Instrumental winner: Lucas Fredrick (euphonium), from Westport, a student of Dr. Travis Netzer
    • Vocal winner: Dylan Rausch (tenor), from Yankton, a student of Mr. Michael Skyles.
    • Honorable Mention: Tanner Pietz, Aberdeen, baritone.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Winter Choral Concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at Aberdeen’s First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Kline St.

    The event will feature the NSU Concert Choir, Chamber Singers and Early Musick Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Timothy Woods with the assistance of pianist Dr. Allan Jacobson.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Dr. Ricardo Rojas, associate professor of mathematics at Northern State University, won a Sanford Faculty Professional Development Award for his project, “A Short Geometry Problem Book.”

    Rojas, who is in his 14th year at NSU, said the idea for his book came about because he was having trouble finding an appropriate geometry textbook for the course he wanted to teach. His book is not going to be a full-length textbook, however; it’s a shorter book of problems,… more

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University Speech and Debate team members received multiple first-place honors at a recent regional conference.

    NSU student Emma Murdock of Fort St. John, British Columbia, Canada, took first place in the Impromptu category at the Valley Forensics League Tournament.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University student Angela Schleich will have her Senior Art Exhibition on display Dec. 1-14 in the NSU Lincoln Gallery.

    Schleich will hold a public reception at 7 p.m. Dec. 4 in the Lincoln Gallery. Her exhibition will include her digital photography, digital paintings and oil paintings.

    “I try to capture the life of South Dakota in my artwork and explore the subjects of family, self-discovery and beauty in this environment,” she said.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University student Madeline Brandner will have her Senior Art Exhibition on display Dec. 1-14 in the NSU Lincoln Gallery.

    Brandner will hold a public reception at 7 p.m. Dec. 4 in the Lincoln Gallery. Digital photography and paintings will be displayed in this exhibition, titled "Ephemera."
